The Canadian ETF space continues to grow and hit new records. Record inflows of $12.1 billion entered into Canadian ETFs according to National Bank Financial’s research, representing a 28% growth over 2011. I hope this is a sign that more investors are realizing the benefits of using ETFs in their portfolios.
The most popular ETF was BMO’s S&P/TSX Capped Composite Index ETF, which had the largest inflow of $813 million.
The most popular asset class was the Fixed Income, which was up 54% from 2011.
BMO ETFs was the largest provider in 2012 in terms of asset flows, however newcomer Vanguard had the fastest growth and I suspect will continue to gain popularity due to their low fees on the majority of their offerings.
